Hinchinbrook Chamber Annual General Meeting and Networking Event

Our Annual General Meeting and Networking Event is on Thursday 9 November 2017.

We are doing things a little bit different this year. We are having it in the open at TYTO. We will start off with networking, finger food and drinks and then quickly go through the formalities so people can get back to socialising. Please try to come along and would be great if you encourage others to attend as well. $20.00 per person. Everyone is welcome.

  • All those holding positions on the Executive and Committee will retire from office, but shall be eligible upon nomination for re-election.
  • Please find attached the nomination form for positions on the Executive and Committee.
  • All positions must be nominated and seconded and voted in.
  • Nomination forms must be handed in by two weeks before the meeting so by 26 October 2017.  Those nominated, nominating or seconding need to have paid Chamber membership for the period up to 30 September 2018.
  • If there are no nominations for a position.  Nominations can be taken from the floor of the meeting.

Chamber Administration Officer takes the minutes at the monthly meetings and does all the bookkeeping and setting up bill payments etc. Secretary and Treasurer positions are more about helping to make decisions, planning, Projects and being the second signature by processing bill payments online that have already been set up. Treasurer must still oversee Treasurer’s tasks.

Ban on Single Use Plastic Bags – Workshop

Ban on single use plastic bags Workshop – Ingham

The Queensland Government will enforce a state-wide ban on single-use plastic bags from 1 July 2018.  Will your business be ready? 

Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Tourism have organised to have a Workshop in Ingham where Mr David Stout, National Retail Association’s Director of Industry & Policy will give a short Presentation and you will be given the opportunity to ask questions.

This ban will affect all retailers – from grocery stores to fashion boutiques, from convenience stores to fast food outlets – that currently use light-weight plastic bags, including HDPE plastic, biodegradable, compostable, and degradable bags.

Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce President Patrick Lynch has asked that all business owners and any members of the public who may have an interest to come along and attend this information session. Business operators may have an additional cost due to finding a suitable replacement for the plastic bags This will be a great opportunity to have your say. Tea and Coffee will be provided and will be a great opportunity to network.

Virgin Australia name one of their planes after Mungalla

Mungalla Station – the home of Mungalla Aboriginal Tours has been honoured by having a Virgin Australia Plane named after them.  Mungalla have been given this honour because of the great work they have been doing with the Greening Australia’s Reef Aid project.

Congratulations John M Scott -50 Years as a Practising Solicitor in Ingham

A big thank you to John for his service to our community over the past 50 years.

On 14 December 2016 was the 50th anniversary of John’s admission as a Solicitor of the
Supreme Court of Queensland by the Full Court of Supreme Court in Brisbane.
The 3 January 2017 was the 50th anniversary of his commencement of  practice as a Solicitor in Ingham in the employ of Hopkins & Dwyer, Solicitors with a view to acquiring the interest of Mr George Hopkins in that firm on the 30 June 1967 and entering into partnership with Mr Jim Dwyer on the 1 July 1967.
The 1 July 2017 is the 50th Anniversary of the commencement of his practice as a Solicitor in Ingham as the owner of  a one-half  interest in this legal practice.
On the untimely death of Mr Jim Dwyer on the 27 January 1975 John acquired his one-half interest in this legal practice since which John has conducted the practice as a sole practitioner.
A wonderful achievement.
