Ingham is 110 kms north of Townsville and 240 kms south of Cairns along the Bruce Highway and is the commercial centre of the Hinchinbrook Shire.

About The Austalian Italian Festival:
The Australian Italian Festival is celebrated annually, and is a fantastic event that promotes, showcases and celebrates the cultural attributes of Italian migrants and descendant’s in the Hinchinbrook Shire and Australia. It also celebrates the significant contribution they have made and are making to the Australian way of life.

It has been estimated that over half of Ingham’s population has one or more Italian ancestors making it the ideal place to hold this event.

It is a celebration of all things Italian – Food, Wine, Cooking Demonstrations, Entertainment, Market Stalls, Historical display, Spaghetti Eating Challenge, Greasy Pole Challenge and much more.

The Historical Display tells the stories of many of our early pioneers, especially the Italians, and how they struggled to fit into the Australian way of life and endure, through hardships and insults. The majority of the migrants worked in the canefields under very difficult circumstances. It demonstrates the resilience of the migrants and how they succeeded to own their own piece of land – some of which is now in the hands of 4th generation cane farmers.

The first Australian Italian Festival was held in 1995 in the Main Street of Ingham. In 2011 the venue was changed to the award winning TYTO .

Ingham Races

The Herbert River Jockey Club advises that the race meeting scheduled in Ingham for Saturday 1st September will now be held as a family day at the Townsville Turf Club.

“HERBERT RIVER JOCKEY CLUB RACE DAY IN TOWNSVILLE”
(FAMILY DAY)
1ST SEPTEMBER 2018

These changes have arisen as a result of necessary renovation work to the Herbert River Jockey Club race track. Unfortunately since works were carried out, continued dry conditions and cold weather has not allowed the turf to re-establish to the standard required for racing.

The Herbert River Jockey Club apologises for any inconveniences that may arise from these changes.

The club would also like to thank the Townsville Turf Club for making their track available and providing their assistance to ensure that our September race meeting can still be held.

The running of the annual Ingham Gold Cup and Fashions of the Field will now be held at the 17th November 2018 race meeting.
